Facts that you Need to Know for Funeral Arrangements

Dying is a very big business in the United States and it is no different in New York.  Funeral directors can sometimes lead you into purchasing things that you really don’t need or really don’t want when somebody passes away.  They know that you are in a vulnerable position which in some cases gives them the opportunity to make a lot of money.  Depending on what you want and what you believe you need a funeral can costs anywhere is from $6,000 to up to $50,000.  Make sure that you do your research to make the best informed decision before you arrive at the funeral home.  We will tell you some facts need to know that might help you with this process.

Embalming is Not a Requirement in some States

Embalming is not a requirement in some states in the United States.  A funeral director might tell you that you must do it.  Make sure you check to see if it is a must or it is something that you can save on.  Refrigeration is another alternative that can be offered to supersede the need for embalming.  Another issue that many people are led into doing which is not a requirement is a feeling of the body.  A funeral director can make you feel as if it is something that is needed so relatives and friends can say their proper goodbyes.  This is really up to you to make that decision just make sure you know it is not a requirement and you should not feel guilty and anyway if you decide that it is not proper for your situation.

The Casket

The choosing of the casket is another decision you will have to make.  This decision can make you feel very uncomfortable and many people feel the sense that if they buy the cheap casket they are letting the person down that has passed on.  My belief, and I stress my belief, is that the deceased really doesn’t care and would be a lot happier if you saved the money for something else.  A body decomposes the same way in a beautiful casket that’s very expensive as well as in a reasonable casket that is far less expensive.

Cremation

Cremation also has many misconceptions and is another way that a funeral director can take advantage of your decision.  In a typical situation you can be told that you must purchase a special earn which is normally very expensive to hold the ashes.  This is nonsense!  When a body is cremated they will give it to you in a special vessel.  You can very the ashes or drop them in almost any area as long as you have permission from the person that owns that property.  The law states that cremation is considered a final disposition of human remains in which there are no health hazards.

These are just a few things that you need to know when making funeral arrangements in New York City.  I would like to say that most New York funeral homes are very reputable and we’ll give you the options are available and will not try to mislead or push you in anyway.  With that being said there are a few that exist that will do everything they can to make as much money as possible.  Please take this information and use it to make the best informed decision when making funeral arrangements.
